NIGHTWISH
Отличительной особенностью раннего творчества Nightwish является сочетание сильного вокала, характерного скорее для классической оперной сцены, и жёстких гитарных
риффов, агрессивной атмосферы, характерной для хеви-метала. Также в композициях используется фольклорные элементы, характерные для таких групп, как финская Amorphis.
Всё это дополняется помпезными клавишными проигрышами.
Впоследствии стиль группы усложнился, особенно начиная с альбома Century Child. Группа начала использовать в своей музыке записи классического оркестра, и использовать другие
спомогательные эффекты, которые придавали особенное звучание музыке.
Благодаря сочетанию различных стилей существует множество мнений, к какому из них можно отнести творчество группы. Одни считают как некий производный стиль «симфо-пауэр-метал»,
созданный итальянской группой Rhapsody of Fire. В то время как другие относят их к жанру «оперного метала», учитывая необычную манеру исполнения первой вокалистки группы.
Сам же композитор и автор стихов Туомас Холопайнен однажды описал их музыку как «мелодичный хеви-метал с женским вокалом».
